Samford Places 26 On SoCon Fall Academic All-Conference Team
Samford placed 26 student-athletes on the Southern Conference's Fall Academic All-Conference team, released by the league Dec. 20.
A total of 345 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team. The 345 student-athletes, which participated in football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's cross country recorded a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Women's cross country and women's soccer were the Samford teams with the most representatives, with each team placing eight members on the team. Seven football players made the list, while men's cross country had two representatives and volleyball had one member on the team.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded fall campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
From the conference as a whole, the women's soccer programs supplied the greatest number of honorees with 85, followed by football and women's cross country which each had 65 players qualify.
Among institutions, Elon had the highest number of Academic All-Conference team members with 42. Appalachian State (36), Chattanooga (35), The Citadel (33), Wofford (31), Samford (26), Davidson (26), UNC Greensboro (26), Furman (23), Western Carolina (23) and Georgia Southern (20) round out the list by school.
