Assessment at Samford University

Model of Assessment

In keeping with Samford University's long history of assessment, a new model of assessment was developed and implemented in 2006. This model revolves around 5 guiding principles:

1.     The assessment process must accommodate the mission of each unit and university.

2.      The assessment process must be manageable, flexible and simple.

3.      The assessment process should not duplicate current assessment efforts.

4.      The assessment process should have a clear timeline and consistent format.

5.      The assessment process should be built upon and facilitated by a structure.

Samford's Model of Assessment incorporates 5 assessment areas that span the University.

  Assessment Model

Assessment activities at Samford are also guided by the belief that assessment is a continuous and collaborative process that is enhanced by faculty and staff development.

Facilitating the implementation of the plan occurs through a collaborative effort between the Academic Affairs and Operating and Strategic Planning divisions. The overall process is monitored by the Associate Provost who is responsible for leading university efforts to improve student learning and educational program outcomes, collaborating with faculty, departments and schools, developing and implement assessment strategies, and to improve the quality of education at the university.

The department is comprised of three individuals: the Associate Provost, Dr. Mary Sue Baldwin, an administrative secretary, Jane Schwartz, and the Academic Grants and Sponsored Program Officer, Tim Wolfe.
