Greetings from Samford University's School of the Arts!

I hope that you will continue developing your talents in the arts during your college career, whether that is by pursuing a major in the School of the Arts, joining an ensemble, auditioning for a play, or submitting artwork for the annual student juried show.

If you plan to major in music or theatre beginning in the fall of 2010, I encourage you to attend one of the School of the Arts audition and interview weekends on November 13-14, February 5-6, or February 12-13. These two-day events will provide you with opportunities to meet professors and current students, attend a Samford Arts production, and even stay overnight in the residence halls as a guest of a Samford Arts student! There are also parent information sessions with Dean Joseph Hopkins and a representative from the Office of Financial Aid on Saturday while you will be participating in auditions and interviews for acceptance into the School of the Arts and for scholarship consideration.  More information regarding the audition and interview weekends will be available in early fall 2009.

High school juniors and seniors considering majoring in art are encouraged to attend Art Day on Saturday, November 14.  Seniors interested in applying for art major scholarships also are encouraged to attend the audition and interview weekend activities beginning on Friday afternoon, November 13.  While the parents attend the information sessions described above, the students will have the opportunity to select two workshops taught by the Art Department faculty members.  You could explore features of Adobe Photoshop one moment and learn how to fire a coffee mug the next!  More information regarding Art Day will be available in early fall 2009.

Theapplication for admission to Samford University through the Office of Admission will be available for fall 2010 applicants beginning August 1, 2009.  After submitting that application to the Office of Admission, you should begin the separate application process for the School of the Arts.  The application, audition and interview requirements, and more can be viewed with Adobe Reader.  The revised documents for fall 2010 applicants also will be updated in August 2009.  In the mean time, You can either download the entire fall 2009 School of the Arts Application Packet or click the individual links in the Forms section below.  All of the materials can be either mailed in or saved as PDFs and e-mailed toarts@samford.edu.

If you’re on Facebook, I invite you tojoin our group for Applicants to Samford University’s School of the Arts for updates on the application and audition process and to receive invitations to attend Samford Arts events.

Please let me know how I may assist you in your college search!

Best wishes,
